Shave Seconds Off Your 60: 3 Game-Changing Tips for Baseball Speed

3 Keys to Improving Your 60-Yard Dash Time

Recently, I attended a baseball showcase where I watched over 30 kids run their 60-yard dash. It was clear that this drill separates players who are prepared from those who aren’t. Speed is a critical tool in baseball, and shaving even a fraction of a second off your 60 time can make a huge difference in getting noticed by scouts.

As I observed, three areas stood out where most kids were leaving time on the table. Here’s what they need to work on to maximize their potential:

1️⃣ Run a Straight Line
It sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how many athletes veer off course while running their 60. Even a slight drift adds unnecessary distance, costing precious time. Scouts are looking for speed and efficiency, so running a perfectly straight line is non-negotiable.

Tip
Practice by laying down cones in a straight line and focusing on keeping your head steady and eyes forward. Visualize the finish line and drive your arms straight to stay on course.

2️⃣  Have an Aggressive Start
The first few steps can make or break your 60 time. Many athletes hesitate or don’t generate enough force out of their start. You need an explosive burst to get up to top speed as quickly as possible.

Tip:
Work on your sprint mechanics, focusing on a powerful forward lean and driving your knees high. Drills like sled pushes or resisted sprints can help build the explosiveness you need off the line.

3️⃣ Refine Your Sprint Form
While not as obvious as the first two, poor sprinting mechanics can waste energy and slow you down. Efficient arm movement, proper posture, and controlled breathing are critical for maintaining speed over 60 yards.

Tip:
Film yourself running and review your form. Are your arms swinging straight, or are they crossing your body? Is your stride smooth and controlled? Work with a coach to fine-tune your technique.

Improving your 60 time isn’t just about running more—it’s about running smarter. By focusing on running a straight line, developing an aggressive start, and refining your form, you’ll stand out at your next showcase.

Ready to level up your speed? Let’s get to work! 🏃💨
